Ex-Boyfriend: Episode 3

Episode 2 left me disgruntled (is this Taming of The Shrew redux?), but HELLO Episode 3! I am so ON this bandwagon. So many surprising things in this episode: Chun Jiao, whose voice had only three ranges before (YELL, YELL, and YELL) shows that she has got a kick-ass Contemplative Narration Voice that rivals that of Rainie Yang's. I got what I asked for and was left crying in that scene, and as you know, tears = approval in my book. Lead actress Gina Lee has got superb comic timing which caught me by surprise (read: spit-take) since she has been so straight-laced and severe throughout the show. Damn, girl sure can bring on the funnay.

Ex-Boyfriend: Episode 2

I know it's only the second episode, but the shipper in me is worried for this drama. Will Chun Jiao ever stop snapping at Zhi Ming? Scratch that, will I even come to like her?
To me, it is imperative that I ship THIS coupling, because the 2nd lead simply isn't doing it for me (yeah I'm disappointed too). Yes, he is shuai guy. Yes, he has endless legs. Yes, he is a supportive boyfriend. Yes, he can do no wrong. All the qualities which can fill several million of phone books called Yawn Fest. Yes, he bores me. Jerry Huang has zero chemistry with Gina, and when he's not boring me I find myself slightly creeped out by his mentor-student relationship with Chun Jiao. In my mind I know he's supposed to be a supportive boyfriend, but instead he comes off like her sugar daddy.

Ex-Boyfriend: Mayday's "Zhi Ming & Chun Jiao"

This is not a translation; just thought I'd touch on the OST for a bit, since this song is tied thematically to the show and plays a central part in the OTP's meeting: Mayday's Zhi Ming & Chun Jiao. Like I said before, Mayday was already fairly famous then, with this being the song that catapulted them to big-time fame beyond Taiwan. It was THE song to sing in KTVs (the chinese equivalent of noraebangs) and due to the simplicity in its meaning and breezy lyrics, it easily became the theme song for the 90's. So you can imagine why everyone in the show starts bursting into the song when they learn of the two leads' name. The name "Juliet" itself will not raise eyebrows, but Romeo and Juliet? Commence snerking and egging.

Ex-Boyfriend Closing Theme: Xiao Yu's "We Made A Promise"

Ah, if a song could kill, I'd be dead many times over already. The fact that this song is featured in The Wailing Breakup does not help matters. But all's good, because I'm a masochist viewer slash listener. You can croon me to death all you want, Xiao Yu.
Xiao Yu's limited edition album, "The Beautiful Force"

A special thank you to the contributors of my death, the production unit of Ex-Boyfriend for recognizing a gem when they hear one. (They liked his voice, approached him for the job and voila! Xiao Yu is the sound behind Ex-Boyfriend; not only for the OP theme and ED theme, but the ALL of the BG songs/melodies you hear, sans Mayday's Zai Ming & Chun Jiao and the bombastic (not a compliment) sound effects . That wouldn't be his doing, no.)

Ex-Boyfriend: Episode 1

Ooh ooh ooh! I am happy to report that I'm following a twdrama, Ex-Boyfriend (Qian Nan You), a show on which its central conflict seems to be present in almost all twdramas, ever: Do you take a leap of faith with an old flame or go for the shiny new thing?

First impressions-wise, if you look past the annoying in-your-face sound effects (WHY do they always include those in twdramas, sigh) and OTT acting from the office sidekicks, this show has got potential to be... finishable.

LMAO. I know it doesn't sound like much, but given my history with twdramas - I complete 4 shows a year, tops - this is a BIG commitment, okay. Best case scenario: show being so cracktastic I finish the whole thing in a week. Woo, imagine that? I have my fingers crossed.
Their teenage counterparts was a pleasant surprise (since in twdramas leads usually take it upon themselves to play their high school selves). Though the appearance was short (it's a flashback) but it totally sets the tone of the series, giving us a glimpse to the character's psyche, lest you think she is being too severe on him now.

My heart went out to the teenage girl, her heart set on her sleeve - you can practically see all the love in the world shining in her eyes - and what did this guy do? He crushed her heart into a million pieces and fed it to the wild animals in Kaohsiung Zoo.

I have no pity on your future self, you heartbreaker. You had it coming.
